International Orthodox Christian Charities (EIN 251679348)
Briefly describe your mission.
International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) provides humanitarian/development assistance to people in the US, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East who have been devastated by man made and natural disasters.
Who does your agency help?
In the spirit of Christ’s love, IOCC offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond. We envision that, by God’s grace, IOCC will equip those suffering and in need to continue to improve their own lives and communities and to have means to live with dignity, respect, and hope.
Why should a City of Houston employee give to your organization?
Since its inception in 1992, IOCC has provided more than $800 million in humanitarian relief and sustainable development programs to people facing hardship. All assistance is provided solely on the basis of need. Current programs focus on emergency preparedness and response; sustainable livelihoods; water, sanitation, and hygiene; health; and food security and agriculture in places including Ethiopia, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Uganda, and the United States.
What is something unique about your agency?
IOCC operates at the invitation of the Orthodox Church in the countries where it serves. The Church helps identify the needs and beneficiaries and often actively works alongside IOCC in project implementation. IOCC’s close relationship with the Orthodox Church means that we often have access to underserved communities where needs are great and access to assistance is limited.
